THANK YOU!
I cannot begin to thank all the artists who were willing to donate their hardwork, materials, and most precious time towards the success of this event! I look forward to next year’s offerings if you are willing to take the ride again…only bigger and better!
It was all a success because of YOU!Discovery Ball Artwork Update 4/1/10 This is no April Fool’s joke! The incredibly talented artists are converging this Saturday at Simply Chicago Art located at 1318 Oakton, Evanston, IL to meet each other, share their inspirational stories, and celebrate the amazing collection of artwork put together for auction at this years American Cancer Society – Discovery Ball being held on April 24th. The artwork will be available for preview from 4/3 to 4/21 before it’s transferred to the Civic Opera House for the big event. Please join us this Saturday from 5-7pm to meet, greet, and toast these giving and talented artists!!
02/03/10 Update I have receiving an amazing honor. This evening is the Press Event for the Discovery Ball. It’s being held from 6:30-8pm at the Tiffany & Co. store located on North Michigan Avenue in Chicago. ACS has asked me to display my donated piece at the event this evening to represent the gallery. What a privilege….to be representing such an amazing collection of artists. This is just one step of making people aware of the artwork we will be featuring in the auction gallery at the Ball. 01/26/10 Update The jury selection went wonderful after the first of the year and I was SO proud to be the presenter of all the work submitted. Sharilee Smentek, Vice President of the Associate Board of Ambassadors for the 2010 ACS Discovery Ball event, commented “Catie, you put together an impressive slide show of artwork for us to consider and I truly believe that your own talent and the talents of the other artists will make the ACS a lot of money at the Discovery Ball this year. Thank you for donating your time and efforts to this cause that is clearly so near and dear to our hearts.” What an amazing testament to the artists passion and energy! I’d like to list all the artists who donated their time, their hearts, and their work for this event. 12/15/09 Update:
Today is the day that all the artist submissions are due for the 2010 American Cancer Society’s Discovery Ball auction art gallery. I am going to have all the information to the jury by December 22nd to be reviewed over the holiday and a jury to take place on January 6th. I will be emailing thank you’s to all the artists who have submitted their work. But until you receive them….THANK YOU to all the amazingly talented and inspirationally generous artists who have stepped forward to aid in ending cancer.
11/25/09 Update:
Ah…finally I have information to pass on. First, I just wanted to again thank you so much for your willingness to participate in this event and trust me when I tell you that everyone at ACS is amazed by the fact that we have 15 artists who are involved! I have included two attachments for your review. The first one is Gallery Requirements with regards to the selection process, oportunities, and content restrictions. The second one is the Discovery Ball Auction Packet including the Board of Directors, sponsorship information, and a auction donation form which will need to be completed by you when we make the arrangements to get your work to ACS.We have artists who desire to submit work that is particularly relevent to cancer and we have artists who would like to donate their work for the event to help make a difference whether in the name of someone or just because they care. Each and every generous reason is fabulous. During the meeting with ACS we also determined that it’s of the utmost importance to make a connection between the artist and their work. We are arranging to have the work in a lounge/gallery area where people will be gathering and socializing while viewing your work. That being said we’d like to request the following:
1. Your artist statement. If you have a connection to cancer please include it in this statement. We are hoping to make a collage or post the statements near the work so please keep it brief and perhaps between 300-500 words. 11/12/09 UPDATE:I met with members from ACS regarding the generous donations offered by the artists that I have met through their willingness to create change with their work. ACS has indicated that they wish to instill some parameters and overseeing of the work. I am waiting for them to email to me that listing of parameters regarding the size and content of the work. As soon as I have that information I will email each of you and give you what I know. I haven’t contacted you yet, because I don’t really have much to offer as far as information goes. Thank you for your patience, I know some of you are so eager to get started and I’m eager for that too.
2. Your resume.
3. ACS would like 3 images of your work to view. They don’t have to all be work you’re willing to donate (only one piece per artist is desired), but it would provide a better picture of the type of work you are doing. The works should all relate to the piece you’re donating and please indicate in the email which piece is the one to be donated. Please provide a listing in the email of the artwork, providing the name of the piece, materials included in the piece, and the size of the finished work. If you could make the images approximately 4″ x 6″ that would be great and easier for the jury as we are doing it electronically.
The submissions are due by December 15th and will be juried by ACS and myself by January 6th. I am hoping to have all the work delivered and collected by January 22nd in hopes of having it exhibited prior to the event. If your work is going to be inspired by the event but not ready until after the jury process, please (along with other samples of work) provide you sketch(es) of the work you’re going to do.
If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. This information will also be posted up on my website at www.catarzina.com and on my blog at www.catarzina.wordpress.com.
Again, thank you so much for sharing your artistic voice to make a difference! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, I know I have so much to be thankful for, like all of you.
Well…what an incredible response we have had so far. Thank you to everyone who has contacted me about donating work and especially for sharing your personal stories of cancer’s effect on your lives.
Right now my plan is to email the artists requests for images as well as any other information I will need in December. I am in talks with the Board of Ambassadors for the Discovery Ball to see how much more exposure we can get and a possible exhibition prior to the event somewhere. I was working out this morning and it dawned on me that we could accomplish so much with this powerful body of work. The plan is to collect the work in January. But…I’ll keep you posted as I hear more information.
Thank you all who have responded so far….together we will make a difference!
I have a meeting with the American Cancer Society this Thursday evening, it’s a “meet and greet” and I will have more information after that event. I will be contacting everyone early next week with that information! Thanks again for participating, everyone is excited about the interest in this program.
